Palais des Nations, GenevaThe joint statement, that we-cosigned under this agenda item, reflected the deliberations of other NGOs, who like ourselves, were involved in the women's caucus that met daily during the whole session of the Commission.
Therefore:
- we called on members of the Commission to ask governments for a renewed commitment and show of political will to really go ahead and move towards full implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action with specific targets, benchmarks, timeliness and resources;
- we asked the Commission to provide the legislative authority in its resolution on "Integrating the human rights of women throughout the UN system" and to address all agenda items with a gender perspective;
- we called on the Commission to help to take concrete actions and measures to bring women as peace power/brokers at all levels of decision-making, both at the pre-conflict stage and during hostilities, as well as at the point of peacekeeping, peace-building, reconciliation and reconstruction;
- we welcomed the quality of the work done by Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, Ms. Radhika Coomaraswamy, particularly her focus on trafficking, its root causes and States' responsibilities.
